Long-Awaited Good News in New York After a Frozen Embryo Transfer

I would like to tell you about a couple from Çorlu who have been working hard for a long time to have a child. The main cause of infertility was male-factor. The mother-to-be also had a previous birth affected by spina bifida. For this reason, when planning treatment, we paid particular attention to folic acid support starting before pregnancy.

This couple was referred to us by Dr. Meriç, a very dear colleague of mine, who had also performed their first IVF treatments. Now living in the United States, Dr. Meriç entrusted the couple to us for the evaluation of their remaining frozen embryos and the continuation of their treatment.

After completing the necessary preparations, we transferred two frozen embryos. Thank God, we received the good news on our very first attempt: Our first beta hCG result came back at 227.

Of course, this is only the beginning of the journey. Now we will check whether the beta hCG level rises as expected. After that, we will invite the couple to our clinic to see the gestational sac and, when the time comes, the heartbeat. Since they live outside Istanbul, they can also have these check-ups done where they live if they prefer. What matters is that the process is followed up regularly.

Because of the mother-to-be’s history of spina bifida, we specifically want her to take high-dose folic acid. We will continue folic acid support until the 12th week of pregnancy. We have also carefully adjusted her other medications to continue until the 12th week.

Ahead of us now are a good rise in beta hCG, followed by checks of the gestational sac and heartbeat. This news was eagerly awaited not only here but also in New York. I would also like to thank dear Dr. Meriç for bringing us together with this lovely family.
